Mammon

“No man can serve two masters. He will hate the one and love the other. He will honor one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon,” Jesus taught. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. There are possessions that possess. A good prayer is “keep my heart free from greed.” It is for reason one of the ten commandments is “thou shalt not covet.”

We were all born with nothing. We die with nothing. But what we do with our somethings, has a great effect on the age to come. Storing up riches Heaven involves are riches on Earth. Contentment is the weapon that works best. How you see money determines if you worship Mammon. If your eye is clear, everything is clear. Wealth is but a tool, it is a test. Will you put God first? Will you tithe? Or will you worship Mammon.

This ancient Phoenician god was well known. His temple served as a bank. It was impossible to keep your money there and somewhere else at some time. You must choose in what store house you will trust. But remember the foolish miser, the day came when his soul was required and he was busy trying to make a bigger one. "How much is enough?" "MORE!" Is a punishing answer.
